Often these days, we hear someone say “It isn’t all about you!” Well here’s one time when it is. A narrative essay is written by you, in the first person, and therefore it is all about you! If you want to know how to write a narrative essay, you have to start with what you think about the subject you’ve chosen. The entire essay should be your thoughts about something, so it helps to select a subject that you’re familiar with or have strong feelings about. Usually a person can create this type of a paper without having to research essay topics because they have in mind an interesting concept that they wish to express.

A good example might be where you live (or a special place). The essay could be about a long walk in the woods or along the beach. What do you think as you look at the scenery? Is it beautiful or depressing? Does it conjure up memories of happy times from childhood? Or perhaps it opens up possibilities and enables you to daydream…? Whatever emotions or observations you have can fill the essay with your personal touch and interest readers, as well.

While you’re considering how to write a narrative essay, look around at the people you know. Your friends and family make good subjects to write about. With some of them you may want to use different names (to protect either them or yourself). Do you have a friend who keeps you laughing? Or do you know someone who has had terrible problems and overcome them? People can be fascinating and worthy of an essay.

Is your job interesting? Or the career you plan to have? An essay about work can focus your own feelings and solidify your goals for the future. You can explain, in essay form, what you like about the work or how it will benefit you (and maybe others). In some fields, there are people who stand out and achieve greatness. Was it someone like that who inspired you? Do you believe you can do as well? Or better?

A narrative essay can include religion or politics, although both subjects can be considered taboo in certain company. Are you serious about your faith? If so, I shouldn’t have to explain to you how to write a narrative essay on the subject. You can undoubtedly think of plenty to say! It’s the same for politics, with a slight difference. In essay form, the opinions are entirely your own, but with religion only your personal belief is required. With a political narrative, it helps to be able to reinforce your beliefs and opinions with at least a few subjective facts. For example, a liberal might devote some time to the positive aspects of liberalism, such as women voting. With a conservative, the Constitution is pretty solid ground. Mixing a persuasion essay with a narrative view point can be quite interesting.

In short, learning how to write a narrative essay isn’t difficult. It’s as easy as having an opinion or knowing someone or having dreams. There are plenty of possibilities and ideas to choose from. And you can find every one of them either in the world around you, or in your own mind. No matter the essay length requirement, this type of an essay allows for ample material to form a quality paper.

When you research essay topics, or you are assigned to write a Julius Caesar essay, the first question should be, “The real Julius Caesar or the Shakespeare play?” If it’s a biography essay on the actual man, himself, there is an abundance of information about him, starting with his birth in the first century B.C. On the other hand, if your essay is about the Shakespearean play, there is a great deal you can write about and analyze. It compares well to modern politics, although with less bloodshed.

The play was written during the last years of the reign of Queen Elizabeth. She had no successor and palace intrigues were rampant among those vying for the position. The political scene in 1599 was as tenuous as the one Shakespeare created for his characters. A Julius Caesar essay would require an understanding of the political undercurrents of the times and can be seen reflected in modern days. Motivations are the key, then as now.

An analytical essay can embrace many questions. Was Brutus motivated by patriotism? Probably. Was his behavior directed by the deceit of Cassius? Was Isaac Azimov correct in thinking that Brutus fell victim to vanity and false flattery rather than considering what was best for the people? An entire essay could be written solely on the character analysis of the protagonists and antagonists.

As in many of his tragedies, William Shakespeare used suicide as an element of the story. It generally turns out badly for everyone. What reason did he have for this? As with the famous death scenes in Romeo and Juliet, he has one think the other is dead and commit suicide. The victim isn’t dead and the survivor then kills himself. A little confusing? Why did Cassius kill himself when he thought Titinius dead? The realization that the loss of his best friend might be repayment for the murder of Caesar? The ultimate guilt trip? And why did Titinius commit suicide when he found that Cassius was dead? How deep was their friendship? Or did Titinius feel some guilt at the loss of his friend? And what of Brutus? Was the loss of the battle more important than his life? Or was his suicide motivated by guilt at his killing of his friend, Caesar? All of these questions are crucial to a solid and meaty Julius Caesar essay.

What analogies can we draw between the Julius Caesar play and modern politics? Are the similarities striking? Let’s see. Many people in the political realm can be the victims of their own vanity and pride. Patriotism can be twisted into destructive policies than tear down a country rather than improve it. Leadership is a quality that not everyone possesses. Could a person like Cassius influence the behavior of a leader today? Could he go so far as to orchestrate an assassination to serve his own ends? Would a politician like Brutus fall prey to flattery and lies? Could he be so easily engineered into a killer, under the guise of patriotism? Look at the headlines and you can see it still happens all over the world. William Shakespeare understood people all too well and used it to his considerable advantage in the plays he wrote. Human nature hasn’t changed much throughout time, and can be proven by the fact that Shakespeare’s characters are still believable today. A Julius Caesar essay should contain a variety of examples of the similarities as well as any behavioral modifications that modern society has invented.

It wouldn’t be difficult to write a George Orwell essay. Seriously, there has been plenty written about him and by him. It’s easy to look him up on Wikipedia and discover that his real name was Eric Arthur Blair. He was born in England in 1903 and died in 1950 of tuberculosis. His books and magazine articles and essays are available in libraries and on the internet. It should be simple to write the same essay that a hundred other people have written about George Orwell. Or you could write about the stunning differences in his political views and why they changed so dramatically.

How could a man who considered himself a socialist after seeing, first-hand, the poverty among factory workers and coal miners suddenly start calling himself a fascist? Anyone who understands both terms understands that the two are very similar. Communism is the third member of the trio. His adventure during the Spanish Civil War made some changes in his views, certainly, when he had the opportunity to witness how fascists, socialists and communists used the same means to achieve the same ends, while insisting they were all different.

Orwell saw poverty and the desperation of war-torn areas and the people who inhabited them. His socialist sympathies began with seeing how bad things could be for some, while others had plenty. Some of his earlier writings reflected this. As part of the George Orwell essay, you might name the stories that show his socialistic tendencies.

Towards the end of his life, when he was ill, he devoted himself to his work. He wrote “Animal Farm” and managed to complete “1984” in the months before his death. Both books are excellent analogies for the errors of socialism, fascism and communism. Each story, in its own way speaks against the very things Orwell once espoused.

His depiction of the horse and pigs in “Animal Farm” are clearly the workers and the rulers of the socialist, fascist or communist state. The horse was the strongest, but the first to be duped, used and ultimately killed, much like the desperate masses of poor humans in countries that were overtaken by the political machine of absolute control. The pigs were the perfect image of greed and cruelty that abounds in a dictatorship. Where did he get these ideas, exactly? From seeing what had happened, as in Communist Russia or Nazi Germany? Or from imagining the worst case scenarios for other countries that were starting to lean towards complete government control? Was it only a story of warning and explanation for what already was? Or a clear warning of what was to come? An analytical essay on these things could be very interesting.

Using humans and technology instead of animals, Orwell created a tightly controlled society in “1984”. Written in 1949 and published in 1950, it seemed a futuristic fantasy of the ultimate of mankind. It seemed more like fiction than fact in those days, but what of today? Is there not a “Big Brother” of one sort or another, always watching the citizens (for their own good, of course)? Are words and their meanings not changed to fit a politically correct view of reality? Was George Orwell psychic? What could have brought the images to his mind and inspired him to put those ideas on paper for all to read? A good George Orwell essay would mention or analyze these thoughts and ideas. Writing a persuasive essay can also be done on Orwell and his depictions.

The thought process and intuition he used to create his two most famous works made George Orwell, essay material! No matter the essay length requirement, there are many ways to write a fantastic essay.

The Great Gatsby might be considered something of an essay in its own right. It was written in 1925 and the story was set in 1922. Those were rather wild and prosperous days, the Roaring Twenties. This book, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, tells the story of the people that made the Twenties roar. The good and bad sides of the coin reveal a view of human nature that has always been there, just better hidden in some eras than in others. To write Great Gatsby essays, it isn’t hard to picture the people and their circumstances as they would be in the modern world. Writing analytical essays is a great way to portray the story. Some students however, would much rather just buy an essay instead of creating one about this story.

Nick Carraway is the lead character. He is well educated, a veteran of World War One and from the American Midwest. Looking for more excitement in his life at the age of 29, he moves to the wealthy area of Long Island, New York. A distant cousin of his, Daisy Buchanan, lives nearby with her husband Tom. Renting a smaller home (a bungalow) between two much larger and pricier homes, Nick starts getting acquainted with the people and places that make up the purpose for the story.

The following is the general plot and all should be revealed in Great Gatsby essays. As Nick tells his tale, the veneer of polite society and civilization begins to peel away from the collection of “beautiful people” he meets. Almost like an uninvolved observer, he describes the people, Daisy, Tom, Myrtle and George, Jordan (the lady golfer) and of course, Jay Gatsby. Infidelity seems too common for Nick’s Midwest morality, but he can simply observe as Tom carries on an affair with Myrtle as Daisy and George have a fling. Jordan and Nick begin seeing a great deal of each other, and the mysterious Gatsby spends his time alone.

The romance between Nick and Jordan is superficial, as most casual affairs tend to be. He isn’t as interested in Jordan as he is in the rest of the wealthy denizens of the area. Ever the observer, Carraway watches and listens more than he participates. A strange friendship develops between Nick and Gatsby. He wonders, but never asks, where Jay Gatsby made his impressive fortune.

During one of their talks at the Gatsby mansion, they talk about their service during the Great War (World War One) and Nick finds that Gatsby was indeed in the service, even winning a medal. Finally, Gatsby admits that he knew Daisy during his time in the Army and is still in love with her. Only her wealth and his poverty had kept him from declaring his love in those days. Now, he was a very wealthy man, but she was married to Tom. These are all points of interest that should be presented in all Great Gatsby essays.

Ultimately, Gatsby confesses to Daisy and she is surprised to see how far the poor boy has come. Ultimately he also confesses that his wealth came from being a bootlegger (a close relative of drug dealer in this day). Horrified, Daisy runs away from him.

Meanwhile George and Myrtle are arguing and she runs away from him, only to be hit and killed by a car. The car was Gastby’s and driven by the hysterical Daisy. Tom tells George who owned the car, but not who was driving it. George shoots and kills Jay Gatsby before turning the gun on himself.

It’s all there, adultery, deceit, criminal activities… things haven’t changed much since 1925, have they? Great Gatsby essays can easily be understood today and still used as a social commentary. Whatever angle you choose, it’s a story that still has a ring of truth because human nature remains the same. Regardless of the essay length requirements, this topic is sure to provide enough information to complete a creative essay.

If you want to write a Death of a Salesman essay, the first thing to consider is what approach you want to take. The writing of it? Then do your research on Arthur Miller and his 1949 play. Study his techniques of flashbacks and how he implemented them. His use of Willy Lomans memories and past encounters was very effective by itself. The effect was amplified by having the “real time” characters use doors while the “memory characters” seemed to walk through them, much like ghosts haunting Loman. The actors, when from mixed times in Willy Loman’s life, seemed not to be aware of one another as the audience sees and hears through the lead character’s tortured mind. There are several techniques, used by both the author and the performers (not to mention directors) that give the play a haunting quality.

Your Death of a Salesman essay might focus on the psychological aspect of the story, such as writing analytical essays. Was Willy Loman a failure or did he just think he had failed? Perhaps his level of success was less than he had hoped and dreamed, but it may have been all the success he was able to achieve. Thinking of success as a water glass, his was nearly full. He had always wanted, not more water, but a bigger glass. His brother seemed to have a much bigger glass, filled by going first to Alaska and then to Africa, where he made his fortune. Willy stayed in New York and feared to venture too far from the familiar. But he kept working, raised his family and filled his own glass as best he could. Was it his own apparent failure that haunted him, or jealousy that others reached higher levels than he could?

Did Willy Loman start losing his grip on reality because of some medical problem, such as Alzheimers that was all but unknown in 1949? Or was it simply that his jealousy and regrets piled up until his mind started slipping? His memory of the Mistress haunted him.

His anger at his son for failing a math class (and then watching the boy’s friend and tutor become successful) might have been a matter of seeing too much of himself in his son. Did he so resent his employer that he forced the man to fire him to justify his dislike? These would be good approaches to a Death of a Salesman essay.

Everybody seems to know someone like Willy Loman. A person with a very high opinion of himself (or herself) who makes poor choices and then blames others for their own failings. Loman knew he wasn’t a likeable sort of person, but he chose a career in which likeability was the greatest asset. He watched others make their fortune while being too timid to follow any dreams he may have had. Years go by and the person becomes angrier and less likeable with time. Like Willy, they expect miracles from others while delivering none themselves. Perhaps Arthur Miller knew a person and based Loman on him. Perhaps he was simply an updated, and slightly twisted version of the classic tragedy. The classic being a great man falling and Miller used an ordinary man, instead.

Regardless of which view you take, it should be very interesting to write a Death of a Salesman essay. There are many aspects to write on so depending on essay length requirements a person can write a short 250 word essay or much, much longer. This is an excellent topic.

When students pick “the crucible” to write on in college it generally has to do with the interesting play about the Salem witch trials written by Arthur Miller. This was an interesting piece of art that has been popular throughout the decades. But that is not all that comes with the word “crucible”. Today, let’s look at two absolutely different crucible essays that can be written.

Crucible: Salem Witch Trials

This dramatization that took place in Massachusetts was not historically accurate. This is one aspect of writing an essay about this play that should be mentioned. Some of the characters that Miller made were actually bits of various real persons involved in the actual event fused together. His canvas was a melting pot of sorts and he created each character as he saw fit.

Miller also used the bible to make the patterns of speech seem authentic. This also helped him feed the fear value surrounding the church and also the laws of the age. The play seemed to reflect many of the author’s negative opinions of church and religion. Many people had genuinely believed the play was accurate but records prove otherwise.

It is important to choose an angle and stick with it. An essay author can either write crucible essays about the play by summarizing the text or create analytical essays and take the stand point of historical accuracy. Both are good ideas that can yield a fabulous paper.

Crucible: The United States Marines

When writing about the crucible with regards to the United States Marine Corps, one should research the traditions and the honor of getting to this last test. The crucible is a final test that all recruits must go through in order to graduate and hold the title of Marine. It is a huge honor and rigorous physical challenge. This is one of the most anticipated, and sometimes feared, events in the military for recruits.

One angle to choose, with crucible essays dealing with his particular subject, is the hard work and sheer dedication that each person has who has sacrificed their life to serve their country. Since the crucible is the final test it is important to discuss all that happens, how the recruits feel going in and then graduating after that exhausting feat.

One of the best ways to get first hand information for research and to list on the citation page is to read books written by Marines. They have first hand knowledge that can go into the deep feelings and emotions during the tough activity and what is experienced upon completion. They can more accurately explain the details than a person whose opinions may interfere with the facts.

Conclusion

Regardless of which of these crucible essays you choose to do, remember how vital it is to research essay topics thoroughly before starting your outline. Also the title should be explanatory and reveal the exact essay topic. In your introduction to an essay the clear description should be presented so your reader is not surprised.

Respect is an interesting subject. Does one earn respect, or is it something that comes along naturally? Actually, it can be either one or even both. To write an essay on respect, you might want to decide which type of respect to discuss. No matter what you choose there is plenty of material in life to provide ample essay length.

Most people respect their parents. This is partly because the Bible says God wants us to “Honor Thy Father and Thy Mother”. It’s one of the Ten Commandments. Your parents raise you and provide for all your needs from the time you’re born until you reach adulthood. They put up with all your childhood problems and try to steer you in the right direction so you’ll become a good and decent person in your own right one day. Even if they aren’t perfect (and who is?) they deserve respect because of their love and care.

Teachers and clergymen earn respect, too. They offer guidance and teach us what we need to know from their own perspectives. We learn from them and should show them proper respect.

Parents need to have respect for their children, too. They are individuals with their own interests, talents, needs and abilities. They have a right to the best we can give as parents, including our respect.

An essay on respect can also include inanimate objects that most people revere. The flag, for example. Alright, it’s just a piece of cloth, but when you think about what the flag symbolizes, it’s almost overwhelming! Under that flag, brave men and women have fought and died for the country it represents. Look at a picture of the planting of the flag on Iwo Jima, for example. This famous photograph was taken when American soldiers struggled to raise the flag during World War Two. It is the image of the struggle between good and evil with the flag as proof of victory. A writer can build a wonderful analytical essay just on something such as this.

The Cross is respected by millions because of Jesus Christ and the way he died for sinners. It should be respected for the hope of resurrection and the power of God to raise His Son from the dead.

An essay on respect can be from different angles as well. Respect can also be shown as a form of fear. People with good sense tend to respect certain things for the sake of their safety. For example, it’s a good idea to have a healthy respect for railroad tracks and the trains that travel along them. Only an idiot dares a train to hit him! Rattlesnakes, bears, mountain lions and other wild things should be respected because it’s very dangerous not to! Deep water and rapid currents are more things to show proper respect towards.

Taking people or institutions for granted is a sort of disrespect that isn’t very wise. It’s something that can cause regrets later on, usually when it’s too late to change.

An essay on respect might include all these things. Not to mention that it’s wise to be respectful towards other people in general. Not everyone is deserving of respect, of course. Someone who has done evil to others deserves no respect from the victims. But for the purposes of this type of an essay, it’s a good idea to research essay topics that you hold dear and concentrate the essay on them.
